Technology and our World

What we do today, affects future generations. This is evident especially in global warming, but also with technology. I am in favour of doing all I can in the present, so that my children and generations after them, have the same type of environment as I did, if not a better one.

If a person were even remotely familiar with global warming, he/she would know that there are things that everyone can do to slow the effects of our changing world and atmosphere. Changes such as Hybrid cars, recycling instead of polluting, and it as simple as using less electricity – turning off the lights after you have left the room. I do not think that everyone is convinced that global warming is here and that it is already affecting us.

In terms of where we are with technology, I think that it is great that the Internet has become part of everyday situations for most people, the people who decide to be in the network rather than outside of it. I do not know if using technology to convey information (like e-mail) is reducing the effects of global warming, however, I do believe that e-mail is the best option when it can reduce the amount of paper being used today. It is great that Paul has decided to make this class ‘paperless” because I think it is one step we can all make in reducing the amount of ‘waste’ in our world.

I think we are at a point in time where we have knowledge about the effects of global warming and the technology that is out there that something can be done to drastically reduce, if not eliminate problems each person is contributing on earth. Why not use the ‘tools’ that we have at our fingertips instead of pretending that these problems do not exist at the present time?
